Anyone here not like sex toys? No? Didn’t think so. They are fun, aren’t they? And being the adventurous person I am, I have found that everyday items can make incredibly fun toys. Think toothbrush…that’s all I’m sayin’.

Another thing sex toys are fun for is in writing sex scenes or even humorous scenes – the opportunities are endless. And, as always, they can be a great teaching tool. In As Natural As Breathing, Logan gets to teach Christian about a few he had either never heard of or had but had not tried before. Oh, the fun of walking through an adult shop and picking up things to try. Online shopping has taken away some of the pleasure in that. No matter how many times I go to an adult shop, there is always a slightly clandestine feel to walking through the dildo aisle or picking up the floggers to check them out. Shopping online at Liberator.com just does not feel the same – no matter how much I loooooove Liberator products.

In this excerpt, Logan gives Christian a suggestion he had never thought of before while they are walking through a sea of adult toys.

"...Now, do any of these appeal to you? If not, we could always go to a kitchen store. There are some fun things there.” 



“A kitchen store?”



“Yep. Wooden spoons, pancake turners, cutting boards…” Logan sighed.



“Wow. I never would have thought of that.”



“You will now.”



Spluttering, Christian nodded. “Yeah, I don’t know if I can go into Momma’s kitchen again without turning red.”



“Come on, let’s look at all the other fun toys.” Logan turned and quickly realized he was not being followed. As he turned to find out why, he saw what Christian was staring at and a huge grin crossed his face. Oh, this would be interesting.

My Review:

In a post-apocalyptic world Olivia (Livvie) is an officer hoping to earn her place as a pilot for the Hunter-Killer Squadron of Magnus One, which is one of two remaining cities on Earth. Her job will be to take down the remaining resistance living in the wild & poisoned by the air of earth. After her plane is shot down she is rescued by Hayden, our hero, who is leader of the resistance force and former Officer of Magnus. He takes her into his protection and into his control.

Hayden is compassionate to Livvie’s plight and feels she is just as much of a victim as anyone because she has been brainwashed by those in charge at Magnus One. However, not everyone who lives in the wild feels the same way. To many she is the enemy who has helped destroy their families and lands. Hayden collars her and puts her under his protection. He is sexy, dominant, and shows Livvie who exactly is in charge. When she doesn't do what he says he gives her bottom a well placed slap and makes it very clear that he will do that and more if she does not obey him in the future.  After his warning smack he says, “If I have to do it again, It’ll be a proper bare-bottom spanking.” (YUM!) He makes good on his promise and so much more in many delicious scenes!

Livvie discovers quickly that the earth’s air is not poisoned as she discovers an entire community of healthy people living normal lives. In fact it was her who had been poisoned. The leaders of Magnus kept the air in the domed habitats that residents live in pumped full of a sedative to keep them compliant and easy to control. She realizes that everything she had been lead to believe her whole life was a lie. However, Livvie is spirited and independent. She is not just going to take all of these events lying down.  She shows herself as a fierce female soldier all the way through. First there is her sister to think about back at Magnus who has been taken as a donor to create a baby. It’s not the traditional way of making a baby, Livvie has found out. They will cut her open and remove her entire uterus with little regard to her health or life. Then there is her independence. She finds herself irresistibly drawn to Hayden and all of the delicious things he does to her body…even the painful ones, like spanking. However, she has too much to fight for to fall into complacency. Hayden knows how to make her melt and feel very submissive toward him. However, she does not allow that to change her moral compass or the fight within her. She does what she believes is right no matter what!

Post-apocalyptic books just do it for me. Add to that a steaming hot, dominant, alpha male, lots of spankings, anal play, and amazing sex and you have that perfect storm for me. Livvie is such a great character full of spunk, but at the same time has soft submissive tendencies toward Hayden. Hayden is deliciously dominant and so very sexy yet he is also a great leader and very compassionate towards Livvie, giving her the benefit of the doubt, when he didn't have to. I am a huge fan of Natasha Knight and Captive’s Desire is no exception. This beautiful book has it all including a HEA.

The Lessons of Life and the Preciousness of Community

Many of you know that a couple of months ago my Mom had a stroke. To say it rocked my world is putting it mildly. My Mom is my confidant, my best friend, my biggest supporter & ally, and the person other than my husband & kids that is vital every day and every hour of my life. She has been my rock over the past year. It’s been a tough one. My Dad was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, which is a type of blood cancer, a year ago. She was a prayer and healing warrior throughout. She kept me sane, nurtured me while I nurtured my Dad, and was the glue that kept our family strong during that time. The funny thing is that she is no longer married to my Dad. She rallied around me, my brother, and my step-mom like the angel she is. I am very fortunate for the relationship all of my parents have with each other.

Subsequently, my 16 year old son suffered a very severe concussion. This concussion had him unable to function, interact, go to school, or play his most beloved sports. It caused emotional and mental strife and chaos in our family. His personality changed as he tried so hard to forge ahead in healing. My Mom had all the right words. She was always there ready with advice, research, and tools to help him and us through.  And we did make it through. My Dad is successfully in remission and my son is back to himself and well on the road to recovery! You can see, though, how this stroke threw us (especially me) for the biggest loop of all.

We have learned so much through this though! We have learned that it is never good to go it alone. It is always best to lean on each other. In fact to thrive in life we must learn to do this more often. Sucking it up and going it alone just so that you don’t rock the boat is never the right thing to do. The emotional, mental, and physical consequences are just not worth it. This was my Mom’s lesson. She is so good at giving, but how has she been at receiving? Well, she is being given the lesson of her life in that. Our family, friends, and community have blown us away in their love and support.

What has really rocked our world is THIS community. I have never felt more supported in my life. I never expected THIS community to rally around us in the way that they did. I have received more words of encouragement and support than I ever imagined that I would. It kept me strong. A friend of mine within this community knew of the fundraising efforts we were undergoing in our community of family and friends and asked if she could please share. She just knew that so many of our friends would want to help. And boy was she right! I was floored. These people who had never met her & in a community where most of us do not even share our real names cared & gave over and beyond what we could ever imagine. I never in a million years expected that! I would never have asked for it. My Mom and I both cried (more like balled out eyes out) when we saw the outpouring of support.

My Mom has learned that she never has to go it alone. She is completely supported beyond her wildest imagination and so have I. I have found an inner strength that I never knew I had. The lessons of this year have been hard, but possibly some of the most valuable of my lifetime. I hope I have the chance to give to all of you in the way I have been given to. I am so lucky to belong to this incredible community. I hope we all remember that. Things will come along occasionally to rock the boat, but together we can pull through it all! Who would have thought that a shared interest in spanking would lead to all of this!

Oh and in another bright spot right in the middle of all of this (I was actually at the hospital with my Mom) I found out that I won a beautiful paddle in the Spankee Doodle Blog Hop from Dee Dee at CDD Taken in Hand Stories!! It made my Day! As strange as it is it gave me just that spark of having something to look forward to. It brought levity to an otherwise overwhelming situation. Here is a beautiful picture of the paddle that I won. Mine is exactly the same except with my own name on it in red. Thanks, Dee Dee! It's funny what joy the little things give!
