Sneak Peak Snippet - A Brush of Violet #WipItUp @CorbinsBend 10/8/14

Welcome to my stop on the WIP It Up Wednesday blog hop! With my brand spanking new novel, A Brush of Violet, coming out on November 5th I will be sharing small teasers to put us all in the mood! I'm going to start at the beginning and post a little each week until release day. If you're interested in going straight to the spanking scenes, be sure to check out my posts on the Saturday Spankings Blog Hop.

She hadn’t been on the road for more than thirty minutes and the guilt from taking time off was eating her alive. Her Mother’s voice reverberated inside her head, “Violet, this is a man’s world. You’re never going to get ahead if you don’t stay one step ahead of the game. You have to work harder and be stronger than any man in the workforce and you don’t get that by taking time off.”
“Ugh!” she groaned, frustrated with herself for allowing these stupid tapes to play over and over inside of her head.
Violet knew she was being irrational. She did not share her mother’s beliefs, but frequently found herself falling into those same traps anyway. Rationally she knew she was entitled to this vacation time every year and even deserved it. Just because she hadn’t taken it before didn’t mean that she shouldn’t now. She had paid her dues, God damn it! Her knuckles clamped down on the wheel in an iron grip. Her career was well built. Why shouldn’t she take some time off to refuel and spend some quality time with a friend?
To make matters worse her boss had been a royal ass since she announced her intention of taking time off. Stanley had begun making snide comments alluding to her not being up for “playing with the big boys” or “pulling her weight,” frequently in front of her co-workers.
She usually brushed his barbed comments off as a bad personality trait. In recent weeks, though, it had become clear that she was being singled out for this treatment. Several of the guys had taken vacations with no flack at all. She pushed hard on the gas pedal as her frustration built. The faster she went the more in control she felt. Her little car zipped past the other cars on the highway.
Her phone buzzed from the seat beside her for the umpteenth time. Picking it up, she glanced at the display. “What the hell do you want Stan?” she mentally growled. Thus far she had refused to pick up or listen to the voicemails he left.
Her phone gave a little chirp indicating a new voicemail. Ignoring it, she glanced down at her speedometer. The needle pointed at the 90 mile per hour mark, climbing. “Shit,” she cursed as she blew out a frustrated breath. At the same time she noticed a highway sign that indicated a rest stop ahead. She decided that a little breather and coffee break would not be such a bad idea. A speeding ticket at this point would not help her mood.
Pulling into the closest space she could find to the rest stop’s gray bricked building, she grabbed her purse to make a beeline for the vending machines. She fished in her purse for quarters, her anxiety heightened as she could not find a single one. Calming down she spotted the dollar bill slot. She pressed the buttons to get a coffee with cream and sugar and took a deep breath while she waited for her drink to be ready. The next machine over had a full selection of chips and candy bars. A little endorphin rush would do you good Vi, she thought and picked out a package of Reese Cups.
Armed with her snacks, she made her way back out through the double doors and outside. She sat down on a nearby bench and took a bite of her Reese Cup. Allowing the chocolate to melt on her tongue a second before swallowing; the taste of salty peanut butter mixed with milk chocolate soothed her frazzled mind. She took deep full breaths of fresh air into her lungs, blowing out the last of her frustrations.
Feeling better after finishing the coffee and chocolate she headed back to her car ready to finish the trip. As she sat down she noticed her phone sitting forgotten on the passenger side seat with a new message buzzing in. She clicked the button to make sure it wasn’t anyone important. Just as she picked up her phone, a text flashed across the screen from Stan.

FYI Since you’re busy off having fun I decided to give the Fromholtz case to Jason. Enjoy your time off.

She was livid. The Fromholtz case wasn’t even pegged to start until a week after she got back. Fury threatened to take over her newly achieved calm. She breathed in deeply. In. Out. In. Out. Centering herself, she saw his ploy for what it was. A last ditch effort to achieve control over her. There would be other cases. There was always an abundance of work. He might know that this case was one she had worked hard to land, but she was not going to give him any more power over her. Taking one last deep breath she clicked the button on the top of her phone and the screen went black. No more cell phones. No more Stan. She was officially on vacation.

A Brush of Violet

Length: Novella
Genre: DD/spanking erotic romance
Series: Corbin's Bend

High powered business woman, Violet Walker, has long left her artistic days behind. That is until her best friend, Everleigh Harris, invites her to Corbin's Bend for an art festival. What Everleigh doesn't know is that Violet hasn't been able to paint a single brush stroke since turning her back on her submissive desires and spanking needs in college. When she meets charismatic and drop dead gorgeous Charles her world is turned completely upside down. Will Violet, overworked, burnt out, and in denial of her deepest wants and desires, be able to surrender when love knocks on her door?

Charles Robinson, President of the discipline Board in Corbin’s Bend and longtime resident, adores the community he lives in and the freedom it provides for all who live there. Raised in a traditional family; love and discipline are a way of life for him. There’s nothing he wants more than a marriage just like his parents where spanking and romance go hand in hand, even if that means holding out for true love. Is Violet just the kind of woman he’s looking for?

Will Violet risk the life she’s built for herself in blood, sweat, and tears for the undeniable connection she has with Charles, the utter bliss and contentment she feels when she’s over his lap? Can Charles convince Violet she really can have it all? Will this trip be just what she needs to rekindle all that she has lost since joining the corporate world?

  5. Vi's boss is a real jerk. Oddly though, I am sure a lot of women out there have had this very thing happen to them. You know you have time off due... but then when you take it, your badgered like you've just committed some mortal sin or something.
I hope Violet tells him take his job and shove it!
Loved the tension in this excerpt, Corinne and the coffee and Recess cups .. Yummy!
